New York State Canal Corporation, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Kick-Off Start of Summer Boating Season
National Safe Boating Week Runs May 19-25, 2007
The New York State Canal Corporation, together with
the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will
hold a press conference on Thursday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at Lock 7 on the Erie
Canal in Niskayuna, Schenectady County (directions below) to kick-off the
traditional start of the summer boating season on the New York State Canal
System and waterways statewide this upcoming Memorial Day weekend. The event
also will promote National Safe Boating Week in New York State which runs May
19-25, 2007.
Canal Corporation Director Carmella R. Mantello will be joined by officials from
the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, New York State
Police, and Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as local officials
and members of the boating community.
Members of the media, including photographers, are invited to attend.

Directions: From the New York State Thruway, take Interchange 25 (Schenectady,
I-890, Routes 146 & 7) or Interchange 26 (Schenectady, I-890, Route 5S) to I-890
to Rte 7 Eastbound. Turn left on Rosendale Road (located 1 block before
intersection of Union St. and Rte 7). Proceed approximately 2 miles to left turn
on “Lock 7 Road” – follow to end.
