Water Flows Reduced on Old Erie Canal in Syracuse Region
The New York State Canal Corporation today announced that water levels on the Old Erie Canal between East Syracuse and Durhamville will be reduced by at least two feet to facilitate repairs to the Butternut Creek Aqueduct. Erosion caused by recent heavy rains in the Central NY region has caused a breach in the 1800s-era aqueduct.
The Canal Corporation appreciates the public’s patience and understanding throughout the duration of this essential repair project.
