FAIRPORT LIFT BRIDGE TO CLOSE FOR REPAIRS BEGINNING JULY 10
Bridge to be Closed to Vehicular Traffic July 10-August 18
The New York State Canal Corporation, in cooperation with the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) today announced that work will begin on Monday, July 10, 2006 on the replacement of the lifting cables on the Fairport Lift Bridge in Monroe County.
During these repairs, the Fairport Lift Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic from Monday, July 10 to August 18, 2006.
While the lifting cables are being replaced, Route 250 (Fairport Lift Bridge) will be closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrians will be able to use the stairs and cross the bridge while it is in the elevated position. Bicycles should use the Parker Street Bridge. A signed detour will be posted utilizing Church Street (State Route 31F), Turk Hill Road (State Route 31F), High Street and Whitney Road.
Motorists using the detour route are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly and leave extra time for travel. In addition, travelers should always remain alert and aware of their surroundings.
The Canal Corporation and New York State Department of Transportation appreciate residents’ patience and understanding throughout the duration of this essential Canal-improvement project.
