Small Ship Cruise Line Begins Summer Schedule on
Canal First Ships to Cruise into Capital Region Today

The cruise ships Grande Caribe and Grande Mariner, both owned and operated by Warren, RI-based American Canadian Caribbean Line, will enter the Canal System today in Waterford and moor near Amsterdam for the evening.

The massive 180 foot ships are two of the largest operating on the Canal System. The company operates a third ship, the Niagara Prince, which begins its summer schedule later this month. The ships operate in the Caribbean and other southern waters during the winter months.

The Grande Mariner, carrying 70 passengers, will be at Lock 2 in Waterford at approximately 11:30 a.m., Lock 6 in Waterford at approximately 1:15 p.m., Lock 7 in Niskayuna at approximately 2:30 p.m., and Lock 8 in Schenectady at approximately 3:45 p.m.. The ship will be tying up in Tribes Hill, Montgomery County at Lock 12 for the evening.

The Grande Caribe, carrying 77 passengers, will be at Lock 2 in Waterford at approximately 1:00 p.m., Lock 6 in Waterford at approximately 2:45 p.m., Lock 7 in Niskayuna at approximately 4:00 p.m., and Lock 8 in Schenectady at approximately 5:15 p.m. The ship will be tying up in Amsterdam at Lock 11 for the evening.
