NYS Canal Corporation Kicks-Off Start of Summer Recreational Boating Season
National Safe Boating Week Runs May 20-26, 2006
Carmella R. Mantello, Director of the New York State Canal Corporation, will hold a press conference on Wednesday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Alcathy’s in Waterford, Saratoga County (directions below) to promote National Safe Boating Week in New York State and kick-off the traditional start of the summer recreational boating season during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
Director Mantello is expected to be joined by officials from the New York State Police, State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Department of Environmental Conservation, the Empire State Marine Trades Association and the Mohawk-Hudson Power Squadron.
Members of the media, including photographers, are invited to attend.

Directions:
Take Exit 23 of the NYS Thruway to I-787N. Continue on I-787N to the end. Turn
right onto Route 32 north over bridge into Waterford. After approximately two
miles on Saratoga Avenue, cross over the Erie Canal and take an immediate left
onto 8th Street. Follow 8th Street north to the end and take a left onto
Washington Avenue (over railroad tracks). Continue ˝ mile (you will see Canal
facilities to your left) and bear slightly left onto Flight Lock Road
immediately after gravel parking lot. Continue up Flight Lock Road to the end
(past Lock 5 and Lock 6). The road will dip sharply after the second guard gate
(you will see a bridge just to your left) and will open up into a large parking
lot.
