NYS Canal Corporation to Kick-Off the Third Annual CanalWays Program Four Day Educational Program Highlights Local History Along the Canal

Carmella R. Mantello, Director of the New York State Canal Corporation will join more than 50 school children from the Gardner Dickinson School in Wynantskill to help kick-off the third annual CanalWays program, on Wednesday, May 17 at 12:30pm at the Waterford Visitors Center in Waterford, Saratoga County (directions below).

The CanalWays Program, featuring the Canal Corporation’s Tug Urger, is a joint educational program developed in conjunction with the Waterford Historical Museum, the Town of Waterford and Peebles Island State Park to promote the history of the Erie Canal. In 2006, the four-day program is expected to host more than 275 school children from the Capital Region.

Members of the media, including photographers, are invited to attend.

Directions to Waterford Visitors Center:
From 787-North: Take the NYS Thruway to Exit 23 to I-787 and then continue northbound to the end. Turn right onto Route 32 north over bridge into Waterford. After approximately two miles on Saratoga Avenue, cross over the Erie Canal and bear right onto Broad Street. Proceed through two traffic lights and take right onto Second Street. Proceed to end of street, parking lot is on right (before bridge.)
