CANAL CORPORATION TO HOLD Water LEVEL Management Meeting
Collaboration and Coordination Will be Focus of Central NY Roundtable

New York State Canal Corporation Director Carmella R. Mantello today announced that the Canal Corporation will hold a meeting with various federal, state and local stakeholders to discuss water level management issues associated with the New York State Canal System in Central New York. The meeting will be held at the Canal Corporation’s Syracuse Section Office in Lysander (directions below) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2005.

Water level management along the Canal System in the Central New York region was one of the reoccurring concerns raised during the Canal Corporation’s recently concluded Canal Connections Tour held this past summer and fall. The meeting will bring together various stakeholders in an effort to develop a better understanding of the complex issues associated with water level management in the region and to begin a dialogue for developing strategies to improve water level management and minimize the frequency and magnitude of flooding along the Canal System.

In addition to Director Mantello, Onondaga County Executive Nicholas J. Pirro and Mayor Daniel D. O’Hara from the Village of Baldwinsville are expected to attend. Federal, State and local officials have also been invited to attend the meeting.
