NYS THRUWAY/CANAL CORPORATION TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON MOVABLE DAM REHABILITATION PROJECT IN CANAJOHARIE
The New York State Thruway/Canal Corporation will hold an informal public informational meeting on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 to discuss the future rehabilitation of Movable Dam 10 at Lock E-14 in Canajoharie, N.Y.
The meeting will be held from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the Municipal Building, 75 Erie Blvd., Canajoharie, NY. During the first half hour there will be an Open House, providing the opportunity to view the project plans in an informal setting. An overview of the project will then be provided by Thruway Authority representatives and the project design consultants, followed by a question and answer period.
The project includes concrete resurfacing of the piers and abutments, replacement of the steel gates, repairs to the steel superstructure, repairs to the mechanical and electrical components, and improvements to the existing scour countermeasures. The project will be completed in two phases, one for each of the two spans that cross the Mohawk River. Each phase will involve the placement of cellular cofferdams so that a span can be isolated and the work area dewatered. This will allow the work to be accomplished in a timely and efficient manner. A similar project is currently underway next to Lock E-10, east of Amsterdam.
Project plans will be completed over the next few months. Construction is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2007, with completion targeted for December 2008.
The project is part of the six-year Capital Program to maintain the NYS Barge Canal System.
