Canal Corporation to Officially Transfer Tug Buffalo to Town of Waterford

The New York State Canal Corporation will hold a press conference and photo opportunity at the Waterford Canal Harbor Visitor Center on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at 1 p.m. to officially transfer the historic Tug Buffalo to the Town of Waterford.

Director of the New York State Canal Corporation Carmella R. Mantello, Waterford Town Supervisor Jack Lawler, Waterford Mayor J. Bert Mahoney and representatives from the Waterford Museum and Historical Society will be in attendance at the press conference.

The Canal Corporation and Town are working with volunteers to restore the historic Tug and turn it into a floating historical exhibit.

Directions: From the South: Proceed north on I-787 north. Proceed to end of I-787 and turn right onto Saratoga Avenue. Proceed over Union Bridge crossing Mohawk River into Waterford. Proceed north along Saratoga Avenue for approximately two miles. Just after the historic Waterford Rural Cemetery on the left, cross over Ninth Street Bridge over the Erie Canal and bear right onto Broad Street. Take right just before 126th Street Bridge onto First Street (half block after blinking yellow light). Proceed to end of street. Parking is available at the Battery Park parking lot.
