Erie Canal
November 6, 2009
Mariners are
advised that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) has
scheduled the removal of flash boards on the dams at
Lock E-6 in Crescent and at Lock E-7 in Vischer Ferry
from November 8 through 13, 2009. On Sunday, November
8, 2009 the water level above Lock E-7 in Vischer Ferry
will be lowered by approximately 2 feet below typical
summer levels and on Monday, November 9, 2009 the water
level above Lock E-6 in Crescent will be lowered by
approximately 1 foot below typical summer levels for the
seasonal removal of the flash boards. The water levels
will vary throughout this time period as flash boards
are being removed.
The
completion of this scheduled work is dependent on
weather and/or flow conditions in the river. These
lowered pool elevations will be in effect for the
remainder of the navigation season. Mariners should be
aware that these low water levels may affect some
vessels located in shallow water. Mariners are advised
to refer to the New York Power Authority website at
http://www.nypa.gov/presscenter.htm for more
details.
The Canal Corporation appreciates the public’s patience.
