Mariners are advised that the New York Power Authority (NYPA)
will be lowering the water level approximately 2 feet
below typical summer navigation levels, or one-tenth of
one foot below charted normal pool, upstream of Vischer
Ferry (Lock E-7) on the Erie Canal on Thursday,
September 10th. This will be done in order to modify the
fish passage on the dam. The water level will be lowered
beginning at 4:00 AM on Thursday.
The NYPA anticipates that the water level will be
returned to normal in approximately 24 to 48 hours.
Depending on weather and/or flow conditions in the river
the work may be cancelled and rescheduled by NYPA. For
more information, please call David Weiman of the NYPA
at (518) 287-6340.
These temporary low water levels may affect some vessels
docked at marinas or private slips, in shallower water
near shore.
The Canal Corporation appreciates the public’s patience.
