2007 Notices to Mariners

For notification of major incidents and emergencies that may affect navigation on the New York State Canal System sign up for Canal TRANSalert.

Notices to Mariners provide the latest information about Canal openings/closures, water levels, construction and other elements affecting navigation on the Erie, Champlain, Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca Canals. When necessary, the Canal Corporation issues several Notices to Mariners daily. Notices to Mariners are only posted on the website Monday through Friday during regular business hours. • November 7, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Locks C/S-2&3 in Seneca Falls will reopen on a limited passage schedule
• November 1, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Locks C/S-2&3 in Seneca Falls will be temporarily closed at 7:00 am on Friday, November 2, 2007 due to maintenance
• November 1, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the New York State Canal System is now scheduled to close for all recreational and commercial vessel traffic at 5 PM on Thursday, November 15th
• October 29, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-8 in Scotia and Lock E-15 in Fort Plain will reopen for navigation at 12:00 noon today, October 29th
• October 28, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-8 in Scotia and Lock E-15 in Fort Plain has closed due to high water caused by heavy rainfall
• October 26, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the New York State Department of Transportation will be conducting bridge inspections from Lock C-6 in Fort Miller to Lock C-12 in Whitehall
• October 25, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock E-19 in Frankfort is reopened for navigation
• October 25, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock E-19 in Frankfort is temporarily closed due to maintenance.
• October 24, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-8 and Lock E-19 will reopen for vessel traffic at 7 AM tomorrow, October 25th
• October 24, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-8 and Lock E-19 has closed due to high water caused by recent heavy rainfall
• October 23, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will be lowering the water level approximately 2 feet below ....
• October 11, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the interim locking schedule between Lock E-20 and Lock E-7 on the Erie Canal will be temporarily suspended due to recent rainfall and corresponding increases in water levels
• October 11, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that from Thursday, October 11th to Friday, October 12th, navigation channel width will be restricted under Bridge E-24 in Canajoharie and periodic delays will occur in this time period due to bridge construction
• October 8, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the 2007 navigation season closing schedule has been revised
• October 5, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that from Monday, October 8th to Wednesday, October 10th, navigation channel width will be restricted under Bridge E-24 in Canajoharie and three 30-minute delays will occur in this time period due to bridge construction
• September 21, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Fairport Crew Club will hold a “Lift Bridge Regatta” on Sunday, September 23rd from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
• September 21, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that shoaling to 6.5’ has been reported between red buoys 72 and 72A, just to the south of Lock C-4 on the Champlain Canal
• September 17, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that effective 7 AM on Tuesday, September 18th, locks E-7 (Niskayuna, Schenectady County) through E-20 (Marcy, Oneida County) on the Erie Canal will be operated on a modified schedule for recreational vessels
• September 17, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that delays may occur due to maintenance at Lock E-24 in Baldwinsville on Tuesday, September 18th 2007
• August 29, 2007 -- The New York State Canal Corporation has been informed that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will be lowering the water level by approximately 1 foot below normal, upstream of Crescent (Lock E-6) on the Erie Canal on Wednesday, September 5th
• August 27, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Waterford Canal Harbor will be restricted to vessel traffic from 12 PM Thursday, September 6th to 5 PM Sunday, September 9th for the Waterford Tugboat Roundup
• August 25, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock C-7 to C-8 on the Champlain Canal will re-open for navigation at 7:00 AM Saturday, August 25 2007
• August 24, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Champlain Canal between Lock C-7 and Lock C-8 has temporarily closed to all vessel traffic due to police activity
• August 20, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the submerged cable in the vicinity of Bridge S-3 (Route 89) between Locks CS-1 and CS-2/3 on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal has been secured
• August 13, 2007 -- Mariners are advised of marine construction activities in the vicinity of Lock E-7 in Niskayuna beginning on Wednesday, August 15th
• August 11, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Canal Corporation has received a report of a normally submerged cable floating at the water’s surface in the vicinity of Bridge S-3 (Route 89) between Locks CS-1 and CS-2/3 on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal
• August 8, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that underwater inspection work has been completed at Lock E-28A in Lyons
• August 7, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that beginning Wednesday, August 8th, underwater inspection work will be conducted at Lock E-28A in Lyons
• August 6, 2007 -- Mariners are advised the Canal Corporation will be conducting embankment repair operations on the north bank of the Erie Canal between Lock E-18 in German Flatts and Guard Gate #5 in Herkimer beginning Tuesday, August 7th
• August 3, 2007 -- Mariners are advised to proceed with caution and be on the lookout for debris between channel markers 490 and 498 along the Seneca River portion of the Erie Canal
• August 2, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that a strong crosscurrent may affect vessel maneuverability immediately above Lock C-2 in Mechanicville
• July 30, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that underwater inspection work has been completed at Lock E-28A in Lyons
• July 30, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that starting at 10:30 AM, underwater inspection work will be conducted at Lock E-28A in Lyons
• July 20, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Alplaus Fire Company #1 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a “Paddling for a Cure” regatta on Sunday, July 22nd, from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM
• July 19, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock O-5 in Minetto has re-opened for navigation
• July 18, 2007 -- Please be advised that the valve at Lock E-27 in Lyons has been repaired and the lock is operating normally
• July 17, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock O-5 in Minetto will be closed for maintenance, beginning at 7:00 AM on Thursday, July 19th, 2007
• July 16, 2007 -- Due to a malfunctioning valve, westbound mariners are advised to moor starboard side only of the lock when transiting Lock E-27 in Lyons until further notice
• July 16, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock O-5 in Minetto has re-opened for navigation
• July 15, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock E-20 in Whitesboro to Lock E-21 in New London has re-opened for navigation
• July 15, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock E-20 in Whitesboro to Lock E-21 in New London is closed for police activities until further notice.

• June 28, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Lock E-19 in Schuyler is fully re-opened to boat traffic

• June 27, 2007 -- Drilling activities will be taking place between Lock C-2 and Lock C-3, in the vicinity of Bridge C-4A in Mechanicville, beginning on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 and continuing through Friday, June 29, 2007
• June 20, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the floating docks and much of the bulkhead wall at the Waterford Canal Harbor will be closed to vessel traffic from 10 AM on Thursday, June 28th to 12 PM on Monday, July 2nd for the Waterford Steamboat Meet
• June 18, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Locks E-20 in Utica and E-21 in New London have re-opened for navigation
• June 18, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Locks E- 20 in Utica and E-21 in New London will be closed until further notice
• June 18, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that maintenance at C/S-4 in Waterloo on the Cayuga/Seneca Canal is completed
• June 15, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that on Monday, June 18, 2007, there will be scheduled maintenance at C/S-4 in Waterloo on the Cayuga/Seneca Canal
• June 14, 2007 -- The New York State Canal Corporation has been informed that Brookfield Power N.Y. (Liverpool, NY) will be lowering the water level upstream of the Fulton/Granby Dam (Lock #3) on the Oswego Canal approximately 2 feet below normal in order to perform flashboard repairs on the dam
• June 14, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the lower right gate at Lock 2 (lower portion of Lock CS-2/3) on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal is back in service
• June 13, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the lower right gate at Lock 2 (lower portion of Lock CS-2/3) on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal is temporarily out of service
• June 11, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the replica canal schooner Lois McClure will travel the Canal System
• June 5, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that previously scheduled work to be done on Wednesday, June 6th and Thursday, June 7th, at Bridge C-4A, Rt.67 in Mechanicville has been cancelled until further notice
• June 4, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that on Wednesday, June 6th and Thursday, June 7th, Canal staff will be operating a motorized scow at Bridge C-4A, Rt.67 in Mechanicville
• June 4, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that Range Light construction activities will be conducted south of Lock C/S-1, in the Town of Cayuga, through June 30th
• May 31, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that on Tuesday, June 5th and Wednesday, June 6th, Canal staff will be operating a motorized scow at Bridge C-4A, Rt.67 in Mechanicville
• May 31, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the Bridge Street Bascule Bridge (Bridge O-3) which spans Lock O-1 in Phoenix will be lowered from Noon to 1 PM on Friday, June 1st as part of the Phoenix Canal Days celebration
• May 23, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that embankment repairs have proceeded to a point where the Erie Canal between Guard Gate # 5 in Herkimer and Lock E-18 in German Flatts will reopen at 12 PM (noon) on Thursday, May 24, 2007
• May 17, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that maintenance activities will be conducted on the lower approach wall at Lock E-12 in Tribes Hill on Friday, May 18th
