2007 Notices to Mariners
The
hours of operation for the 2007 Navigation Season
are as

incidents and emergencies that may affect navigation on the
New York State Canal System sign up for Canal TRANSalert.
Notices to Mariners provide the latest information about Canal openings/closures, water levels, construction and other elements affecting navigation on the Erie, Champlain, Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca Canals. When necessary, the Canal Corporation issues several Notices to Mariners daily. Notices to Mariners are only posted on the website Monday through Friday during regular business hours. For the most up-to-date information on the Canal water conditions, please call 1-800-4CANAL4 and press option 3.

Mariners are advised that Locks C/S-2&3 in Seneca Falls will reopen on a limited passage schedule
- November 1, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that Locks C/S-2&3 in Seneca Falls will be temporarily closed at 7:00 am on Friday, November 2, 2007 due to maintenance
- November 1, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the New York State Canal System is now scheduled to close for all recreational and commercial vessel traffic at 5 PM on Thursday, November 15th
- October 29, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-8 in Scotia and Lock E-15 in Fort Plain will reopen for navigation at 12:00 noon today, October 29th
- October 28, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-8 in Scotia and Lock E-15 in Fort Plain has closed due to high water caused by heavy rainfall
- October 26, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the New York State Department of Transportation will be conducting bridge inspections from Lock C-6 in Fort Miller to Lock C-12 in Whitehall
- October 25, 2007 --

advised that Lock E-19 in Frankfort is reopened for
navigation

Mariners are advised that Lock E-19 in Frankfort is temporarily closed due to maintenance.
- October 24, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-8 and Lock E-19 will reopen for vessel traffic at 7 AM tomorrow, October 25th

Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Lock E-8 and Lock E-19 has closed due to high water caused by recent heavy rainfall

Mariners are advised that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will be lowering the water level approximately 2 feet below

Mariners are advised that the interim locking schedule between Lock E-20 and Lock E-7 on the Erie Canal will be temporarily suspended due to recent rainfall and corresponding increases in water levels
- October 11, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that from Thursday, October 11th to Friday, October 12th, navigation channel width will be restricted under Bridge E-24 in Canajoharie and periodic delays will occur in this time period due to bridge construction
- October 8, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the 2007 navigation season closing schedule has been revised
- October 5, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that from Monday, October 8th to Wednesday, October 10th, navigation channel width will be restricted under Bridge E-24 in Canajoharie and three 30-minute delays will occur in this time period due to bridge construction
- September 21, 2007 --
Mariners are
advised that the Fairport Crew Club will hold a “Lift Bridge
Regatta” on Sunday, September 23rd from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- September 21, 2007 --
Mariners are
advised that shoaling to 6.5’ has been reported between red
buoys 72 and 72A, just to the south of Lock C-4 on the
Champlain Canal
- September 17, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that effective 7 AM on Tuesday, September 18th, locks E-7 (Niskayuna, Schenectady County) through E-20 (Marcy, Oneida County) on the Erie Canal will be operated on a modified schedule for recreational vessels
- September 17, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that delays may occur due to maintenance at Lock E-24 in Baldwinsville on Tuesday, September 18th 2007
- August 29, 2007 --
The New York State Canal Corporation has been informed that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will be lowering the water level by approximately 1 foot below normal, upstream of Crescent (Lock E-6) on the Erie Canal on Wednesday, September 5th
- August 27, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the Waterford Canal Harbor will be restricted to vessel traffic from 12 PM Thursday, September 6th to 5 PM Sunday, September 9th for the Waterford Tugboat Roundup
- August 25, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that Lock C-7 to C-8 on the Champlain Canal will re-open for navigation at 7:00 AM Saturday, August 25 2007
- August 24, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the Champlain Canal between Lock C-7 and Lock C-8 has temporarily closed to all vessel traffic due to police activity
- August 20, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the submerged cable in the vicinity of Bridge S-3 (Route 89) between Locks CS-1 and CS-2/3 on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal has been secured
- August 13, 2007 --
Mariners are
advised of marine construction activities in the vicinity of
Lock E-7 in Niskayuna beginning on Wednesday, August 15th
- August 11, 2007 --
Mariners are advised that the Canal Corporation has received
a report of a normally submerged cable floating at the
water’s surface in the vicinity of Bridge S-3 (Route 89)
between Locks CS-1 and CS-2/3 on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal

Mariners are advised that underwater inspection work has been completed at Lock E-28A in Lyons
- August 7, 2007 --

- June 14, 2007 -- The New York State Canal Corporation has been informed that Brookfield Power N.Y. (Liverpool, NY) will be lowering the water level upstream of the Fulton/Granby Dam (Lock #3) on the Oswego Canal approximately 2 feet below normal in order to perform flashboard repairs on the dam
- June 14, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the lower right gate at Lock 2 (lower portion of Lock CS-2/3) on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal is back in service
- June 13, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the lower right gate at Lock 2 (lower portion of Lock CS-2/3) on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal is temporarily out of service
- June 11, 2007 -- Mariners are advised that the replica canal schooner Lois McClure will travel the Canal System
