Erie Canal
Lowered Water Levels

The New York State Canal Corporation has been
informed that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will be lowering
the water level by approximately 1 foot below normal, upstream of
Crescent (Lock E-6) on the Erie Canal on Wednesday, September 5th.
This will be done in order to perform fish passage work on the dam.
The water level will be lowered starting at 3:00 AM on Wednesday.
The NYPA anticipates that the water level will be returned to normal
in approximately 12 to 24 hours.
The NYPA will be lowering the water level by approximately 2 feet
below normal, upstream of Vischer Ferry (Lock E-7) on the Erie Canal
on Thursday, September, 6th. The water level will be lowered
starting at 4:00 AM on Thursday. The NYPA anticipates that the water
level will be returned to normal in approximately 24 to 48 hours.
Dependent on weather and/or flow conditions in the river, the work
may be cancelled and rescheduled. If there are any questions, please

Boaters should be aware that these temporary low
water levels may affect some vessels located in shallow water.
