NOTICE TO MARINERS

Erie Canal

August 3, 2007

Mariners are advised to proceed with caution and be on the lookout for debris between channel markers 490 and 498 along the Seneca River portion of the Erie Canal. Some debris may be encountered related to the partial collapse of a bridge not on the mainline Canal System.

Canal Corporation vessels and personnel will be on scene in this area beginning at 7:00 AM on Monday, August 6th to commence debris recovery operations. These operations will not hinder or block navigation on the mainline Canal System, however, until further notice, vessels transiting this area must proceed at a "No Wake" speed.

For updates and information, mariners are advised to monitor 1-800-4CANAL4 and www.nyscanals.gov. Additionally, mariners may sign up for automatic email and text message alerts through the new Canal TRANSalert service. This service is offered to notify mariners of major incidents and emergencies that may affect navigation on the New York State Canal System.
