Erie Canal
Lowered Water Level
July 9, 2007
The New York State Canal Corporation has been informed that the
New York Power Authority (NYPA) will be lowering the water level
upstream of Vischer Ferry (Lock E-7) on the Erie Canal approximately
2 feet below normal summer navigation levels in order to perform
fish passage repairs on the dam on Wednesday, July 11th. The water
level will be lowered starting at 4:00 AM on Wednesday, July 11th.
NYPA anticipates that the water level will be returned to normal
level after approximately 18 to 36 hours. Depending on weather
and/or flow conditions in the river, the work may be cancelled and
rescheduled by NYPA. For questions and inquiries, please contact Ty
Hinkley of NYPA at (518) 287-6343.
These temporary low water levels may affect some vessels docked
at marinas or private slips in shallower water near shore.
For updates and information, mariners are advised to monitor
