Erie Canal
Schenectady Amtrak Bridge Inspection
July 7, 2006
Amtrak will conduct an underwater inspection of the railroad
bridge piers and abutments in Schenectady on Monday, July 10,
2006. This bridge is designated E-12 in the New York State Canal
Corporation Cruising Guide and is located downstream of the
Western Gateway Bridge.
A small dive boat will be moving about as the inspection
progresses from one underwater substructure element to the next. In
addition, the dive boat will be traversing the waterway within a
zone extending 200 feet upstream and downstream in order to take
profile soundings.
Boaters should proceed with caution when approaching the bridge
and be aware of small, slow-moving watercraft and divers in the
water.
