NOTICE TO
MARINERS
Champlain Canal
Opening
July 6, 2006
12:00 Noon
Mariners are advised that the entire length of the Champlain Canal
will open at 12:00 noon today. Navigation levels may be elevated by
releases from Sacandaga Reservoir from Lock C-7 to the south. Please
be aware that buoy G 43 south of Lock C-2, buoy R 116 south of the
Alcove Marina, and buoy G 129 north of the Alcove Marina are missing.
Mariners should verify bridge clearances prior to transiting the
Champlain Canal as vertical clearance at normal pool is 17 feet.
At this time the Oswego Canal, the Cayuga-Seneca Canal and the Erie
Canal west of Lock E-16 and east of Lock E-8 are open. Boaters are
reminded that due to extensive damage at Lock E-10 in Cranesville,
Montgomery County, the lock will be closed for approximately 8 weeks.
Mariners are advised to proceed with extreme caution and be aware
of floating debris and take steps to minimize vessel wakes which can
create property damage.
