NOTICE TO MARINERS

Champlain Canal
Opening

July 6, 2006
12:00 Noon

Mariners are advised that the entire length of the Champlain Canal will open at 12:00 noon today. Navigation levels may be elevated by releases from Sacandaga Reservoir from Lock C-7 to the south. Please be aware that buoy G 43 south of Lock C-2, buoy R 116 south of the Alcove Marina, and buoy G 129 north of the Alcove Marina are missing. Mariners should verify bridge clearances prior to transiting the Champlain Canal as vertical clearance at normal pool is 17 feet.

At this time the Oswego Canal, the Cayuga-Seneca Canal and the Erie Canal west of Lock E-16 and east of Lock E-8 are open. Boaters are reminded that due to extensive damage at Lock E-10 in Cranesville, Montgomery County, the lock will be closed for approximately 8 weeks.

Mariners are advised to proceed with extreme caution and be aware of floating debris and take steps to minimize vessel wakes which can create property damage.

For updates and information, mariners are advised to monitor 1-800-4CANAL4 and www.canals.state.ny.us.
