NEW YORK STATE CANAL SYSTEM
NOTICE TO
MARINERS
May 5, 2005
Canal Closure Update
The Erie Canal from Lock E-23 (Brewerton) to Lock E-24
(Baldwinsville), and from Lock E-25 (Mays Point) to Lock E-28A
(Lyons), will open for navigation at 12 PM on Friday, May 6. The
Oswego Canal will open in its entirety for navigation at 7 AM on
Saturday, May 7. The Erie Canal from Lock E-24 (Baldwinsville) to
Lock E-25 (Mays Point) will remain closed until waters recede and
levels are safe for navigation. The Cayuga-Seneca Canal will also
remain closed from Lock CS-1 to the junction of the Erie Canal.
Mariners are advised that clearances of overhead structures may
be reduced in areas where water levels remain elevated. Mariners
should also be mindful of debris and consult appropriate navigation
charts when transiting the Canal System.
Mariners are also advised to stay clear of a submerged object in
the vicinity of the Lock E-25 upper approach wall. This object is
visible above the waterline and is marked by danger buoys.
All remaining closed sections of the Canal System will be opened
as soon as conditions allow and safe navigation is possible.
For updates and information, mariners are advised
to monitor 1-800-4CANAL4 and
